Troubleshooting controller connection
Ensure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the controller.
Verify the controller connection. For a hardwired controller, check the screen for a # symbol indicating it’s connected to the router via Ethernet. There should be an Ethernet cable running between the controller and a Wi-Fi extender, or directly from the controller to the router. If you see the # symbol, proceed to the next step.
For a wireless controller, look for an * followed by a number (e.g., *9, *8) on the controller screen. The number indicates the signal strength, with lower numbers (like *2 or *3) representing a weak signal and higher numbers (like *8 or *9) indicating a strong signal.
If no *number or # symbol is present, connect the controller to Wi-Fi.
ONLY if there is no *number or # on the screen, click here for instructions to reset Wi-Fi.
Reset the router
Follow your router’s instructions.
Uninstall and reinstall the app
Refer to your phone’s instructions.
Close the app completely and reopen it (clear from the background)
Refer to your phone’s instructions.
Reset the Wi-Fi extender, if applicable
Unplug the Wi-Fi extender and plug it back in.
Allow the phone to connect to the app
This step is usually completed during installation, as iPhones require it for connection. Go to Settings > Privacy > Local Network, and ensure the switch is turned on for JF Designer.
Perform a hard reboot of the controller
Turn off the switch on the bottom left corner of the control box, leave it off for 10 minutes, then power it back on.
Ensure you are using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, not 5 GHz
JellyFish Lighting controllers are optimized for 2.4 GHz due to their stronger signal, despite being slower than 5 GHz. This is typically configured during installation, with installers setting up an extender to convert to 2.4 GHz. If this is not done, a Wi-Fi extender is necessary.
